Westminster City Councilman Charged with DUI
Westminster, California city councilman Andy Quach was charged with misdemeanor DUI after he crashed his car into a utility pole, knocking out the power of more than 300 homes. Quach’s blood-alcohol level was found to be 0.26, more than three times the legal limit.
A few minutes after midnight on August 4th, Quach’s Mercedes S550 collided with another car, struck a concrete wall, and severed a power pole. The three passengers in the other vehicle were not hurt. At the time, Quach told police he must have nodded off while driving home after having dinner with friends.
At a council meeting, Quach apologized for the incident but added that he would not discuss the specifics of the case. When asked if he would consider resigning, Quach said, “I will not make any hasty decisions at this time.”
Some council members said they had received angry calls about the incident.
Authorities said at the time of the accident, Quach showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slow and slurred speech, and unstable balance. They also said he smelled of alcohol and performed poorly on a field sobriety test.
